Tailwater Soft Hackle

It’s been a while since I’ve featured a softhackle, so here goes. I like this pattern because it’s going to have a nice weight for faster waters. Simple enough in design and well tied with proportion and an even body in mind.

  1. Great tie. I love simple soft hackle patterns.

  2. Thanks for the mention. Kinda humbling to see the video and my fly shown somewhere else.
Much appreciated, always enjoy your blog.

I need to redo the video a little too. I need to include some of the tweaks that Davy Wotton and T-Bird (the latter who ties these for the shop) put in.

Tie the two strands of wire underneath the shank at the tie in point with a minimum of thread, it will give a cleaner finish to the rear of the fly.

Wotton too was giving me a hard time about one wrap of the hackle being twisted _ use Hackle Pliers. Its not easy getting stuff judged by one of the world’s best tiers but he certainly helped polish this fly as he never lets me off the hook on technique.

If you have some even faster water tie your 14s in Brassie wire, gives a very segmented look and a lot more weight

    Thanks guys
